This morning/afternoon we went for a walk/hike around one of the many lakes here. It was so beautiful!

It would have been helpful if I had my walking poles because some of the terrain was very steep and rocky. The whole walk took about four hours. A year ago, before I lost weight, I would not have been able to do it. Not the four hours and not much of the hike itself. My knees, which I am fairly certain have arthritis were really hurting at a few points in the hike and it felt so good to step into the cold lake and ease some of the burning feeling.

At one point my husband saw a moth sitting at the bottom of the lake and fished it out. He sat with it for about 15 minutes because it was moving just the smallest bit. It ended up drying off and flying away. We named it Morte Moth after the name of the lake.

I found a nest on the trail. Hoping its inhabitants were done with it.

The water was crystal clear and so clean.

This is the lake. I forgot to mention its about a 45 minute walk into the lake, then 2 hours around then 45 minutes back. We did stop 3 times for a rest.

Here’s a panorama. When we got back to the car I was so thirsty, I drank a whole Gatorade in about 5 seconds.

And here’s a text my daughter just sent me.

And now we are going out for dinner.

  1. Gorgeous scenery! Isn’t it great to be able to do things that you weren’t able to before? If moths can be grateful, I bet that one was. -Jenn

  2. Well, you earned your dinner, didn’t you? What a beautiful place to walk, but I’d call that a bonafide hike. It’s great that your weight loss made it achievable. Love this post.

  3. I love field trips, ahahaahahaa. Really, those are beautiful pictures. I used to love hikes in the woods in New Mexico on the weekends when I wasn’t working. The air was so clean and fresh and it was so quiet that you could hear your own heart beating.

  4. Good for you to do that hike! Beautiful scenery, and that lake looks so nice. I’ll bet it did feel so good on your feet to cool off.
