It Heartened Me a Little

Marilla: Now, you come downstairs and see if a good cup of tea and some of those plum puffs I made today don’t hearten you.

Anne Shirley: (sobbing) Plum puffs won’t minister to a mind diseased in a world that’s crumbled into pieces!

Marilla: Well I’m glad to see that your dented spirits haven’t injured your tongue.

~Anne of Green Gables

You will have to read this morning’s post first for that to make sense. We did take my car in for repair. It’s still at the shop. And we did go for lunch. I had a grilled BLT from a local bakery. And a chocolate croissant. I may be depressed but I am not insane. A chocolate croissant would melt the surliness of most people.

But this did cheer me up. I found it at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

It was a CD cabinet that I repurposed for the last of the few little knick knacks I have.  A penguin my daughter made. A little angel from my son when he got his first job.

There is also a little candle holder that my husband and gave me when we were first dating. Isn’t it a cute cabinet? I love it! I may paint it but I doubt it. Someone made it and did a great job. Unfortunately the picture quality is horrible so you can’t see all the detail.

In the same store I found a different light fixture because the Holly Hobby one was making me rage. So this,

For this. I don’t love it and will eventually replace it but it was $3.00 and it isn’t some bitch telling me how to live my life.

And because I was throwing money around I bought two new sets of dishes. Our dishes were a mix of yours, mine and ours and I hated them. I found these on sale.

I’m not any less tired. I’m still overwhelmed. But a day away from work, even though I love my job, is nice. There is a reason that I get paid to do it. I love my chosen career but I love my days off too.

Okay. With that I am going to go put a chicken on the rotisserie. I think roasted potatoes and spinach sounds good too.

  1. I love it all! I’m so happy you did things that lifted your spirit and I love the cabinet and I think the new light fixture is a keeper.
May I please come for dinner?

    • You absolutely may come for dinner! And the light fixture is growing on me. And I don’t have to hire an electrician to put a new one in.

    • Like I said before. That bitch obviously has never worked a day in her life and has never had to get up at 6:00 a.m. No doubt she is a morning person. So chipper and happy and trying to force her values on me.

  2. How nice that you treated yourself to these treasures. That is a really cool storage/cd cabinet. Definitely original. I love your new dishes. The next set I get will be boldly coloured. We have plain white ones now and I’m sick of them. I need more colour in my cabinets!

    • Our dishes were a mish mash. Some were white. Some off white. Some brown and beige. None of them matched. Well, no matter. They are now in the donate pile. And Canadian Tire has 40% off this week on some of their dishes. Definitely some bold ones in there.

  3. I have a CD house like that! I painted it all, when I went to folk painting classes!
Dinner sounds fantastic….and that lunch! 😳
    Cheers!

  4. What great finds! That Holly Hobby fixture would enrage me too. Glad your day got a little better.

  5. I love those dishes! I’m glad you had a good day. So deserved. The Holly Hobby comment made me laugh. Joanne

  6. What great finds! I had to laugh at the Holly Hobbie reference. I had a necklace with one of the characters on it and a chain. I think my fifth grade picture is testament to it, so I think I’ll root around and find it and send it to you for your collection. 🙂

  7. That is the cutest knick knack shelf ever, and your chicken and spinach dinner sounds very healthy and good.
